My quilts

Each quilt is an heirloom piece made with a combination of premium cotton fabrics and found fabrics. The found fabrics are a collection of miscellaneous blends from thrift stores and friends near and far. I am inspired by the Gee’s Bend quilters of Alabama and improv quilters.

I switch between scissors and the rotary cutter. I rarely measure. Each quilt begins with color and the design emerges from there.

After curating a set of fabrics from my chosen color palette I then pull from scraps of past projects and cuts of different textures and patterns. From there, it is an improv conversation at the machine and then to the design wall, back to the machine and repeat.

When the quilt top is finished it is then paired with a coordinating back quilt, then basted with cotton batting. Finally, I machine quilt straight lines of cotton thread and bind with handmade binding.

I photograph my quilts with my family at the salt marshes local to the area where I live.
